George Soiney, 88

Soiney_GeorgeThief River Falls - George Soiney, 88, died on Sunday, September 21, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 25 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Casketbearers will be Danny Larson, Chucky Larson, Billy Larson, Gerhard Molskness, Lee Dusek and Dale Weflen. Interment will be in Park Ridge Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 6 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

George Soiney, Jr. was born on February 13, 1915 in Holt, the son of George, Sr. and Josephine (Hagen) Soiney. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural school, east of Holt.

On December 30, 1956, he married Ardith Hartman at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Throughout the years George worked road construction. He built many roads in North Dakota and Minnesota. In the mid-1930s, George hauled wood to Thief River Falls with horses and used the money to buy a 1929 Model A.

He enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, spending time with his German Shepherd, Honey, and his cat, Rusty. He also loved to spend time with his family, working on the farm, going to auctions, working in the garden, cutting wood, fixing different things and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Ardith of Thief River Falls; two children, Ross of Warroad and Ronald of Thief River Falls; and two grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Wesley; sisters, Effie, Clara, Myrt, Esther and Alma; and brothers, Nate, Walter, Joe and Ray. A00003B2003SP24
