Lois Smith, 61

Goodridge - Lois Smith, 61, died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, at Smith Obit Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Margie Iverson will be the organist, and the soloist will be Joe Kezar. Casketbearers will include David Sjulestad, Sonny Sjulestad, Roger Wheat, Allen Todd, and Howard Sjulestad. Interment will be in Star Cemetery in Star Township of Pennington County.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, April 3) from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Lois May Wheat was born on May 23, 1940 in Quiring Township of Beltrami County, the daughter of Robert and Elsie (Caldwell) Wheat. She grew up in the Kelliher area and attended school at Saum. In 1962, she married James Smith and resided in Star Township near Goodridge.

Lois enjoyed crafts, collectible horse, porcelain dolls, animals, ceramics, and blue grass music.

Survivors include two daughters, Marylou (David) French of St. Paul and Rosemary Smith of Goodridge; a son, Jimmy Smith of Goodridge; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Wheat of Blackduck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter in infancy, her parents, and four brothers, LeRoy, Floyd, Joe, and David.
