Patricia Smeby, 44

Thief River Falls - Patricia "Patti" Smeby, 44, died on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 in Willmar.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist and soloists were Mia Zutz and Darcy Reese. Casketbearers were Terry Allen, Brent Odegaard, Steve Strathman, Pat Knaeble, Dave Kirkeby and Kelly Allen. Honorary casketbearers were all of Patti's nieces and nephews and her "adopted" children. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Patricia Kay Odegaard was born on December 7, 1958, the daughter of Gerald and Avis (Nygaard) Odegaard, in Granite Falls. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Granite Falls and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1977 and attended Northland Community College, earning degrees as a medical secretary, a licensed practical nurse and a registered nurse.

On June 24, 1978, Patti was united in marriage to Paul Smeby in Thief River Falls. She was employed at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls from 1981 to 1998, and also at the Credit Bureau for a year. She has since worked in sales at Digi-Key Corporation. Patti was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and a participant of the Digi-Key Choir.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; children, Sarah and Kelly Smeby of Thief River Falls; her parents; brothers, Larry (Marlene) of Elkhart, Ind., and Chuck (Sharon) of Thief River Falls; sister Ann (Rocky) Joppru; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her dog, Lucy.

Patti was preceded in death by her grandparents and a niece.
