Annie Smeby, 85

Karlstad - Annie Smeby, 85, died Friday, December 28, 2001 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad.

Funeral services were held at 2 Annie Smeby p.m. on Monday, December 31, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. Kirstin Olson was the organist, and Corienne Jacobson was the soloist. Casketbearers included her grandson and great-grandsons: Tim Roy, Jason Wollin, Jared Wald, Jamie Arroyo, Bryan Arroyo, Andrew Jenks and David Roy. Honorary casketbearers were granddaughters Cindy, Nancy, Marlene, Michelle, Shar, Lu, Randi Jo and Melissa. Interment was in Karlstad Cemetery with Collins Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Blankowitch was born on July 29, 1916 in East Park Township of Marshall County near Strandquist, the daughter of John and Katie (Allmer) Blankowitch. She grew up near Strandquist and attended Parkville School near her home. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.

On August 4, 1938, Annie was united in marriage to Henry Smeby at Halma. The couple farmed three miles east of Karlstad until retiring and moving into Karlstad in 1972. Henry died on April 28, 1990. Since July of 1993, Annie had made her home at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.

She was longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Karlstad where she was active in its ladies' group and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of Royal Neighbors of America and active in the Karlstad Senior Citizens group.

Annie is survived by three daughters, Ruby Ann (Larry) Roy of Minto, N.D., Pauline (Ronald) Monson of Detroit Lakes and Julie (Ronald) Wollin of Karlstad; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John of White Bear Lake and Joe of San Francisco, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Frank; and three sisters, Mary, Agnes and Priscilla. A00003B2001JA02
