Theodore Skjerping, 84

Newfolden - Theodore Skjerping, 84, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 2, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Margie Iverson was the organist, and special music was presented by Rev. Dahlen and Jennifer Rome. Casketbearers were Cliff Dahl, Clifford Larson, Floyd Otto, Earl Hanson, Jerome Skjerping, Forrest Johnson, Maurice Stenseth and Merle Johnson. Interment was in Bethany Cemetery.

Theodore "Ted" Arnold Skjerping was born on November 19, 1916 in Smiley township of Pennington county, the son of Alferd and Alvilda (Stenseth) Skjerping. He was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church and confirmed at Holt. He attended Hammer School in Smiley township, Sunnyside School at Holt and the Northwest School of Agriculture at Crookston.

In 1928, Ted moved to Holt where he lived and worked for the remainder of his life. He farmed the family farm and owned a farm in Smiley township. He was also employed as a carpenter, building barns, houses and garages.

He enjoyed hunting, cutting wood, making small crafts and gardening.

Survivors include three sisters, Gladys Walker of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lorraine Stepke and Dorothy (Joe) Snartemo, both of Milwaukee, Wisc.; two brothers, Donald Skjerping of Newfolden and Willis (Carol) Skjerping of Coon Rapids; 16 nieces and nephews; and several cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Adolph Skjerping; two brothers-in-law; and a great niece.
