Ethel Skime, 83

Roseau - Ethel Skime, 83, died Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at the Roseau Area Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau. Casketbearers were David Morrow, Mollie Heikkila, Lara Skime, Randi Radesic, Eric Skime and Jeri Marie Skime. Interment was in Spruce Cemetery in Roseau with Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau in charge of the arrangements.

Ethel Elizabeth Nordvall was born on December 16, 1917 in Roseau, the daughter of Erick and Olga (Nasland) Nordvall. She grew up and attended school in the Minnesota Hill area of Roseau county. She graduated from Roseau High School in 1937. Ethel worked as a bookkeeper at a seed plant and also at Lee's store in Wannaska.

On June 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Clifford Skime at Minnesota Hill. The lived in Plummer, Lake Bronson and Wannaska. In 1952, they moved to Roseau. In addition to homemaking and raising their children, Ethel worked with Clifford at the creamery as a bookkeeper. For the past five and one-half years, she had traveled to Bemidji frequently for dialysis.

She was active at Messiah Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and release time classes and belonged to MWELCA and circles. She was also a member of the Eventide and hospital auxiliaries, WCTU and was a Cub Scout den mother.

Ethel enjoyed quilting and the arts.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford of Roseau; a daughter, Angela (Bill) Morrow of Minneapolis; two sons, Larry (Judy) Skime of Oxnard, Calif. and David (Kay) Skime of Thompson, Manitoba, Canada; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rubie Keller of Russellville, Ark. and Lillian Chess of Port Orchard, Wash.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Arden; and three brothers, Gustav, Carl and Uno.
