- Venus Simundson, 96, died Friday, October 19,
2001 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October
22, at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, rural Hanska.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Firle
Funeral Home of Hanska in charge of the
arrangements.
Venus
Flora Synsteby was born on February 22, 1905 in
Lake Hanska Township of Brown County. She attended
school in Hanska and graduated from New Ulm High
School in 1923. After attending St. Olaf College
for a year, Venus taught in area rural schools for
four years.
On
June 19, 1927, she married Rev. O.M. Simundson at
Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. They served parishes
in Laurel, Plentywood and Chinook in Montana,
Roslyn and Aberdeen in South Dakota, and Plummer.
The couple lived in Fargo for three years where
Rev. Simundson worked with the Lutheran Hospitals
and Home Society. Following their retirement, they
resided in Sioux Falls and Groten, S.D. After her
husband's death on June 27, 1981, Venus moved back
to Lake Hanska and lived with her brother, Ollie,
on the home farm for 13 years. They moved to Luther
Memorial Home in Madelia on January 21,
1994.
Venus
is survived by two sons, Rev. Jon (Alice) Simundson
of Spooner, Wisc. and Dr. Dan Simundson of
Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her husband; parents;
three brothers, Ollie, Roy and Elmer Synsteby; a
sister, Cora Stockton; a half brother, James; and a
half sister, Alma.
