Thief River Falls - Thomas "Archie" Simpson, 72, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at his home in rural Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 5 at Johnson-Green Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Interment was held at Holt Cemetery in Holt.

Thomas "Archie" Simpson was born February 13, 1932, at Lowefarm in Manitoba, Canada, the son of Dewey and Elsie (Greening) Simpson. He grew up and attended several schools and graduated from Warren High School in 1950. He also attended Northpark College in Chicago, Ill. for one year.

He served his county with the United States Army, serving in Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged.

On June 22, 1957, Archie was united in marriage to Lucille King in Massachusetts, where the couple made their home in Danvers for 20 years. In 1977, they moved to Thief River Falls, where they have since resided. He worked for Lee Plumbing for 2 years. They were foster parents for disabled adults. Archie worked for many years as a handyman in the Thief River Falls area.

Archie enjoyed raising chickens, gardening, his hobby farm, traveling and tinkering around the farm. He also loved cats.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Thief River Falls; children, Kim (Owen) Steinhauer of Thief River Falls, Kathy (Del) Olson of Gilbert, Ariz., Kristen (Dean) Pennington of Ashland, Kent., Thomas (Shelah) Simpson of Thief River Falls and Charles (Rhonda) Simpson of Evansville, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Metcalf of Angus and Violet (Lloyd) Lenhart of Thief River Falls; three nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; his parents and an infant brother. A00003B2004JN09
