Otto Sigerud, 87

Thief River Falls - Otto Sigerud, 87, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 5 Sigerud obit p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Terry Olson officiating. Wanda Vigness was the organist, and a duet was presented by Mark and Audrey Hanson. Casketbearers were Scott Hinrichs, Chad Hinrichs, Lance Hinrichs, Mike Sigerud, Dale Sigerud and Jon Sigerud. Interment was in Reiner Cemetery in Reiner township of Pennington county. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Otto Sigerud was bon on October 22, 1913 in Reiner township of Pennington county, the son of Emil and Ingeborg (Fredrickson) Sigerud. He was baptized and confirmed at Reiner Lutheran Church which, at that time, met at Star Township School. He attended Pershing Elementary School in Reiner. Otto stayed on the farm and helped his parents. Other employment included working for Schenkey Construction in Middle River for a number of years and also in the valley potato fields.

On February 19, 1943, Otto was united in marriage to Hulda Bertina Hanson at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage. For many years, the couple farmed in Reiner township, raising cattle and grain. In 1997, they moved to Thief River Falls where they had since resided.

Otto was a member of Reiner Lutheran Church in Reiner township and attended Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.

He enjoyed trapping, hunting and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Otto is survived by his wife, Hulda of Thief River Falls; a son, Virgil of Bloomington; a daughter, Beverly (Steve) Hinrichs of Angora; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Harry, Johnny, Edwin and Fredrick and John in infancy; three sisters, Elga Hermanson, Carrie Hermanson and Olga Sorter; three brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
