George Shimpa, 68

Greenbush - George Shimpa, 68, died on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 10 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Rev. Bryce Fellbaum officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist and Bill Wagner was the soloist. Special music selections were "Avazing Grace" and "Good Night and Good Morning." Casketbearers and honorary casketbearers were George's friends from the O.D.C. Interment was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Greenbush.

George Shimpa was born on October 4, 1934, the son of John and Katie (Kaml) Shimpa in Roseau. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 14, he moved to Faribault and later, to Brainerd, Fergus Falls and Karlstad. Since 1984, he has made his home on the family farm in Barnett Township near Greenbush. In August of 2002, he began residing at the Greenbush Nursing Home. George enjoyed his O.D.C. activities and attending auction sales throughout the area. George especially enjoyed his time on the farm and his pets.

Survivors include three brothers, John (Peggy), Charley (Bernice) and Teddy, all of Greenbush; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
