Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at Altru Hospital in Grand
Forks, N.D.
Funeral
services were held
Friday,
Oct. 10 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Thief
River Falls, with Rev. Terry Olson officiating.
Wanda Vigness was the organist, and Jan Nyflot was
the soloist. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in
Thief River Falls.
Gladys
Linstad was born November 23, 1911, in Thief River
Falls, the daughter of Ole and Clara (Bang)
Linstad. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith. She grew up and attended country
schools near Thief River Falls.
On
January 4, 1933, Gladys was united in marriage to
Elmer Severson in Thief River Falls. The couple
bought a farm in New Solom Township and operated it
until 1943. Then they moved to Thief River Falls,
where Gladys worked at Valley Home. She worked
there for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 70.
This year, Gladys and Elmer celebrated 70 years of
marriage.
Gladys
was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran
Church, where she served as its first secretary.
She was an active member of the Women's Missionary
League, Bible Study and was involved with Our
Saviour's Christian Academy. She also was a 4-H
Leader. Gladys enjoyed handiwork, such as making
afghans, pillow cases, dish towels and such. Gladys
was a good cook, loved birds and enjoyed the beauty
of them.
Survivors
include her husband, Elmer; three children, Richard
(Caren), Stanley, N.D., Ronald (Marnie), St. Paul;
and Dennis, Denver; four grandchildren; two great
grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Kosmatka,
Foreman, N.D., and Naomi Hoffer, Lincoln, Calif.;
and a brother-in-law, Paul Thoreau.
Gladys
was preceded in death by a daughter, Ardella; a
sister, Juanita Thoreau; and her brothers, Elmer,
Ben, Allen, Oscar, Lawrence and one brother in
infancy.
