Thief
River Falls - Kenneth Schroeder, 78, died
Sunday, May 20, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in
Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at
noon
on Thursday, May 24, at the Evangelical Free Church
in Thief River Falls with Rev. Jim Howard
officiating. Carolyn Trontvet will be the organist.
Casketbearers will be John Flom, Gordon Johnson,
Gary Anderson, Earl Hanson, John Holmberg, Bob
Sorvig, Carl Anderson and Harold Vatthauer with
Dennis Wilken and Les Cota as alternates. Honorary
casketbearers will be members of Berean's Sunday
school class. Interment will be in Holmes United
Methodist Church Cemetery, rural Reynolds,
N.D.
Visitation
will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May
23) with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Green
Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will
also be held for one hour prior to services at the
church.
Kenneth
Orville Schroeder was born on January 7, 1923 at
rural Thompson, N.D., the son of Fred and Lena
(Neinas) Schroeder. He grew up and attended schools
in Grand Forks county of North Dakota. He worked at
a Holmes, N.D. country store for five years, and
while living in North Dakota he enjoyed singing in
the Brotherhood Chorus at Holmes Church.
On
December 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to
Ruby Bengs at Holmes Evangelical Church. The couple
farmed near Thompson, N.D. until 1958 when they
moved to St. Hilaire where they raised turkeys and
grain until retiring in 1993.
Kenneth
was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of
Thief River Falls where he served on church boards.
He was also a member of Gideons International, was
the River Falls township assessor and served
several terms on the St. Hilaire School
Board.
He
enjoyed life on the farm, woodworking and spending
time with his family for whom he always led
devotions.
Kenneth
is survived by his wife, Ruby of St. Hilaire; four
daughters, Ruth (Dick) Kennedy Jr. of Pittsboro,
Ind., Amy (Bill) Marfell of Fergus Falls, Myrna
Rian of Winona and Mary (Mike) Szigety of Randolph,
N.J.; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter;
five brothers, Clarence (Wanda) of Bemidji, Floyd
(Myrtle) of Gig Harbor, Wash., LeRoy (Mae) of Grand
Forks, N.D., Roland (Eleanor) of Port Orchard,
Wash. and Richard (Evie) of Grand Forks, N.D.; two
sisters, Doris Lange of Vancouver, Wash. and
LaVerne Lenz of Northwood, N.D.; and many nieces
and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, two
brothers-in-law and a nephew.
