June Scholin, 76

Thief River Falls - June Scholin, 76, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on June Scholin obit Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and Vanessa Anderson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Robbie Finstad, Deb Waterworth, Cletus Brown, Martha Bjorgaard, Sheila Winstead, and Tony Rader. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

June Lorraine Nelson was born on June 14, 1925 in Salol, the daughter of Victor and Tilda (Brandrud) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church in Pennington County. June was raised in the Thief River Falls area where she attended school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. After graduation, she attended teachers' training and taught at Daisy Dale School and Netland School in Rocksbury Township.

On July 21, 1946, June was united in marriage to Vernon Scholin in Thief River Falls. The couple resided in Thief River Falls, and June stopped teaching for several years to raise their three children. She eventually resumed her teaching career, teaching at the rural Skallet School, Viking School in Viking, and St. Bernard's, Knox, and Washington schools in Thief River Falls. She taught remedial reading. She officially retired from Washington School in 1987 and then taught Adult Basic Education. Vernon died on November 13, 2001.

June was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in Cursillo.

June and Vernon enjoyed traveling, going to Belgium, North and South Carolina, Texas, Mexico, and Yellowstone National Park. June also enjoyed nature, walking her poodle, Woofer, visiting, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca (Smith) Danielson of Hayesville, N.C. and Valerie (Jerry) Halverson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a son, Brian (Judy) Scholin of Pine City; four grandchildren; a brother, Gene (Alice) Nelson of Viking; three sisters, Betty Olson and Marian Finstad, both of Thief River Falls, and Phyllis (Willie) McGregor of Radium; and a brother-in-law.

In addition to her husband, June was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Nelson; and a sister, Kelly Flaten. A00003B2002FB27
