Paul Schmitz, 45

Red Lake Falls - Paul Anthony Schmitz, 45, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at his home in rural Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was Schmitz held on Friday, November 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Tim Bushy officiating. Casketbearers were Richard Schmitz, Robert Schmitz, Marlen Schmitz, Dale Schmitz, Dan Derosier, Jamie Derosier, Richie Knott, Wayne Magner Jr., Jim Schmitz, Calvin Harmoning, Aaron Schmitz and Ike Knott. Honorary casketbearers were all of Paul's brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Interment was held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Paul Schmitz was born on June 5, 1957, the son of Alois and Dorine (Beauchane) Schmitz at St. John's Hospital in Red Lake Falls. He was baptized at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Dorothy and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. He attended St. Joseph School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls in 1975. Paul was united in marriage to Peggy Dargon.

Paul worked for Schmitz Construction and farmed with his brother Richard and his father. He also worked for his father's Pro-Builders Company for many years. He quit farming and went to work for I.C.S. in Grand Forks, N.D. until he retired due to illness. Paul also did various carpentry jobs throughout his life and was well known for his quality workmanship and hard work.

Paul enjoyed traveling on his Harley Davidson, hunting, snowmobiling, playing softball, watching sports and spending time outdoors. He loved spending time with his kids and family and enjoyed people and helping out in any way he could. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and ABATE.

Survivors include five children, Corey J. Dufault of Winona, Seleena Hagl of Oslo, and Kelly Schmitz, Kyle Schmitz and Rochelle Schmitz, all of Red Lake Falls; his parents, Alois and Dorine Schmitz of Red Lake Falls; 14 brothers and sisters, Laurie (Greg) Hamness of Strathcona, Marlen Schmitz of Grey Eagle, Melanie (David) Lessard of Crookston, Andrea (Russ) Gunufson of Fertile, Tricia (fiancé Matt Proulx) Schmitz of Shevlin, and Robert (Marlys) Schmitz, Richard Schmitz, Darlene (Rodney) Zutz, Karen Schmitz, Lisa (Brian) Nelson, and Michelle (Chad) Williams, all of Red Lake Falls; 38 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and special friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, Medy and Rose Beauchane and Bernard Sr. and Elizabeth Schmitz.
