Leota Scheuring, 86

New Hope - Leota Scheuring, 86, formerly of Red Lake Falls, died Saturday, February 16, 2002 at St. Therese Care Center in New Hope.

Mass of Christian burial was held Scheuring Obit Tuesday, February 19, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Polly Beyer was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were Eldon Burstad, Monte Burstad, Brent Lindner, Jim Benoit, Vaughn Thorfinnson, and Duane Adelman. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with Johnson Funeral Service in charge of the arrangements.

Leota Fern Thompson was born on January 11, 1916 at Huron, S.D., the daughter of Theodore and Mary Jane (Maxon) Thompson. In 1926, Leota moved with her family to St. Hilaire, and in 1929, they moved to Red Lake Falls.

On November 26, 1936, Leota was united in marriage to Alois Scheuring at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple resided in Red Lake Falls where Leota cleaned houses for various families in the community. She worked for a time as a cook at the elementary school in Red Lake Falls. Alois died on March 5, 1976. Leota moved to Sunset Court and resided there for many years. In 1995, she moved to Chisago City, and in April of 1999, she moved to St. Therese Care Center in New Hope where she had since resided.

Leota was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls and its Guild. She was also an active volunteer, serving on the election board, volunteering with the March of Dimes, and always available to help others.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning, cooking, and watching the birds and squirrels.

Leota is survived by two daughters, Jean (Henry) Hankins of Kinnear, Wyo. and Patricia (Hugo) Lindner of Brooklyn Center; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Harvey Thompson, Clay Thompson, and Don Thompson; and a sisters, Winifred Johnson Burstad. A00003B2002FB20
