Selma "Sally" Saurdiff, 86

Selma SaurdiffGrygla - Selma "Sally" Saurdiff, 86, died on Monday, March 31, 2003 at the Warroad Care Center in Warroad.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with the Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Joy Nordby will be the organist and the soloist. Casketbearers will be Selma's grandchildren. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery in Marshall County. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 6 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Selma Amanda Dalos was born on January 16, 1917, the daughter of Bernhard and Oline (Wikoren) Dalos, in Benville Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Valley Lutheran Church and attended Dalos School and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1933. Following high school, she attended North Star Teachers College in Warren. Selma taught at Dalos School from 1936 to 1941.

On September 21, 1940, Selma was united in marriage to Paul Leon Saurdiff in Baudette. She was a bookkeeper for Saurdiff Trucking, she owned and operated the Grygla Café, and she worked as a census taker for many years. Selma enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She and her husband enjoyed rides in the countryside, Twins baseball, feeding the birds and raising a garden. Most of all, she enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include nine children, Sharon (Anthony) Kozojed of Thief River Falls, Paul (Julie) Saurdiff, Jr., of Grand Forks, N.D., Richard (Diane) of Warroad, Diane (Bruce) Sandahl of Lancaster, David (Gwen) of Grygla, Steve (Susan) of Grygla, Susan (Bill) Hamilton of Skaneatelles, N.Y., Lee (Betsy) of Grygla, and Jill (Lee) Olson of Warroad; 29 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Julian Dalos of Grygla; one sister, Ellen M. (William) Wilson of Elmondo, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; four brothers, Ludvig, Sidney, Sivert and Oliver (Stella); and four sisters, Dena (Clifford) Wolin, Bertha Dalos, Randi Dalos, and Lila (Irvin) Anderson. A00003B2003AR02
