Thief
River Falls - Rolland J. Sande, 79, died on
Sunday, June 1, 2003 at the Northwest Medical
Center in Thief River Falls.
Funera
services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June
5 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls
with the Rev. Karin Moberg officiating.
Casketbearers will be Ryan Pemble, Ray Pemble, Troy
Klassen, Kevin Klassen, Kevin Walker Sande, Ken
Rigdon, Gregory Sande, Tom Mellem and Jeremy
Hulberg. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
with an 8 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday at the
Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to
services at the church on Thursday. Interment will
be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Rolland
John Sande was born in Nevis on September 8, 1923,
the son of John and Ella (Newman) Sande. He was
baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. In
1929, he moved with his parents to rural Thief
River Falls, where he attended school. He served in
the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.
Prior to service, he was employed at Lockheed Vega
Air Craft in Burbank, Calif., and American Steel
and Wire in Duluth.
On July
23, 1947, he married Enid Mellem at Viking. They
were the third generation to live on the Sande
farm, where they have since resided. They were
dairy and small grain farmers. Rolland was also a
partner in Sande Auto & Implement Co. In 1970,
he began employment with the State of Minnesota as
a food and meat inspector, retiring in
1989.
Rolland
was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church,
where he served on the Building Committee, Church
Council and Pastoral Call Committee. He was active
in the Christian Renewal group, via de Cristo
(Cursillo). He was a member of the American Legion,
Golden Pioneers and Senior Nutrition Council. He
was an avid reader, enjoyed photography, traveling,
family and friends. His main interest was in people
and their life stories.
Survivors
include his wife, Enid of Thief River Falls; four
children, Gary (Dianna) of Blaine, Lynnell (John)
Pemble of Jamesville, Gail (Toby) Klassen of St.
Charles, and Carol (Bob) Crosbie of Lakeville; 15
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers,
Glenn (Sue) of Champlin, and Milton (Bonita) of
Fargo, N.D.; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Sande of
Erskine.
Rolland
was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,
Darrel Sande; and twin grandsons.
