Helen Saatzer, 86

St. Cloud - Helen D. Saatzer, 86, died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Daniel Funeral Home of St. Cloud in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services.

Helen Olson was born on July 23, 1915 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Selmer and Otellia (Hanson) Olson.

On July 3, 1954, she married Clemence M. "Cobbie" Saatzer at St. Paul's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Helen owned and operated Helen's Bridal Shoppe in St. Cloud for a number of years. Clemence died on January 18, 2001.

Helen was a member and past president of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary and a member of St. Cloud Veterans of Foreign Wars Granite Post 428 Auxiliary. Helen was also the founder, member, and past president of the Society of Minnesota Inventors. She was listed in the 1971 edition of Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Grovum of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vivian (Leonard) Brekke and Joyce (Bill) Halbasch, both of Thief River Falls.

In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clifford; and a sister, Alice Lappegaard.
