Oliver Rye, 91

Thief River Falls - Oliver Rye, 91, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, November 28) at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. George Bunnell officiating. Casketbearers will be Arlen Sorum, Bill Mehrkens, Keith Hagen, Larry Myhrer, Bruce Steinhauer and Myles Koop. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Oliver's friends at Valley Home. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery in New Sollum Township of Marshall County near Rosewood.
Visitation was held Tuesday, November 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Oliver Newman Rye was born on December 1, 1909 at Goodridge, the son of Henry and Julia (Olson) Rye. He grew up in Goodridge and moved with his family to Thief River Falls in 1926. Oliver was baptized in Goodridge. The family resided in North Dakota until 1931 and then returned to a farm near Rosewood. Oliver helped on the farm. In 1965, he and his mother moved to Thief River Falls, and in 1969, Oliver moved to Skylite Apartments. Prior to entering the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in August, he had resided at Valley Home for six years.
He enjoyed reading the Bible and visiting with and helping people.
Oliver is survived by two sisters, Ella (Walter) Steinhauer of Thief River Falls and Illene (John) Stitt of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Ralph (Atropa) Rye of DeSoto, Kan.; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alice Steinhauer, Nora Cloutier and Hilda Jorde; and two brothers, Melvin Rye and Clifford Rye. A00003B2001NV28
