Shirley Ruud, 74

Red Lake Falls - Shirley (Efteland) Ruud, 74, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 21, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and the soloist was Kathy Rokke. Casketbearers were Mark Peterson, Jason Aakus, Eric Efteland, Larry Efteland, James Efteland and Curtis Efteland. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Norquist was born on June 26, 1927 in St. Paul, the daughter of Victor August Perry and Esther Mabel (Moen) Norquist. She was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church and attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945.

On November 15, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Myles Julian Efteland. He died on December 24, 1966.

In 1980, she married Roy Ruud in Gatzke. She resided in Gatzke for a time and in 1998, moved to Red Lake Falls where she had since resided.

Shirley worked at Halls Floral for a few years as well as Hartz, Oakland Park Nursing Home, J.C. Penney and Red Owl. She also owned and operated Nelson Grocery in Thief River Falls.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion and VFW auxiliaries and the Eagles.

Shirley enjoyed knitting, quilting and birdwatching.

Survivors include two sons, Jon (Linda) Efteland of Knoxville, Tenn. and Myles Jeffrey Efteland of Minneapolis; a daughter, Victoria (Robert) Guillemette of Red Lake Falls; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.
