Ruud, 84
Thief
River Falls - Roy Ruud, 83, died Monday,
January 14, 2002 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red
Lake Falls.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January
19, at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke with Rev.
Sandra Hollands officiating. Gloria Sistad was the
organist, and Lois Anderson and Lois Peterson were
the vocalists. Casketbearers were Darrell Severts,
Jerome Lund, Donavon Ruud, DelRay Ruud, Dwight Ruud
and Harvey Mugaas. Interment was in Landstad
Cemetery near Gatzke. Green Funeral Home of Thief
River Falls was in charge of the
arrangements.
Roy
Ernest Ruud was born on January 23, 1917 in Gatzke,
the son of Mennik and Constance (Johnson) Ruud. He
was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in
Gatzke and attended a Gatzke school.
When
he was 15 years old, Roy worked at Melgard Farms
near Warren. He also worked at his uncle's plumbing
shop in Montana and for Johnson Well Screens in St.
Paul. He was also employed in road construction for
Lansydel Construction in Moorhead and then at
Polaris Industries in Roseau and Agassiz National
Wildlife Refuge until his retirement. Following
retirement, Roy was caretaker of Gunderson
Apartments in Thief River Falls.
In
1980, he was united in marriage in Gatzke to
Shirley Efteland of Thief River Falls.
Roy
was a member of the Heritage Center and United
Lutheran Church of Gatzke.
He
enjoyed hunting, telling hunting stories, helping
and spending time with people, and staying
busy.
Roy
is survived by two stepsons, Jon Efteland of
Tennessee and Jeff Efteland of Minneapolis; a
stepdaughter, Victoria (Robert) Guillemette of Red
Lake Falls; four step-grandchildren; three step
great-grandchildren; a brother, Mylan (Lila) Ruud
of Gatzke; a sister, Eunice (Joe) Novak of Thief
River Falls; and several nieces and
nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; three
sisters, Ester Mugaas, Lyleen Mugaas and Florence
Lund; three nieces and a nephew.
