Gloria Rugland, 76

Thief River Falls - Gloria Rugland, 76, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Services were held on Friday, Rugland Obit June 22, at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Merrill Kindall officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and the soloist was Vanessa Anderson. Casketbearers were Jade Fredrickson, Lance Fredrickson, Wayne Hanson, Blaine Rugland, Rex Rugland and Stewart Rugland. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge in of the arrangements.

Gloria Beatrice Smith was born on April 8, 1925 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Oda and Tressie Marie (Hogue) Smith. She grew up and attended school in Clarkrange, Tenn.

Gloria met Robert Rugland while he was on leave during World War II, and the couple was married on October 5, 1946. The resided in Roseau until 1969 when they moved to Thief River Falls.

She enjoyed crafts, gardening, bowling and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Bob; three daughters, Jan (Jerry Doherty) Harshaw of Roy, Wash., Diane Fritz of Thief River Falls and Kelly (Bill) Merchant of St. Cloud; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Eddie) Jackoski of Miami, Fla. and Helen (Clayton) Alred of Clarkrange, Tenn; a brother, Bob (Gloria) Smith of Clarkrange, Tenn.; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
