Arvid Rongen, 69

Westport, Wash. - Arvid Luther Rongen, 69, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 14 at the Little Norway Lutheran Church in Fertile. Interment was in Little Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery in Fertile.

Arvid was born on September 16, 1933, the son of Arthur and Hilma (Gredvig) Rongen in Garfield Township, rural Fertile. He was baptized and confirmed at Little Norway Lutheran Church. He attended Lone Oak Rural School before graduating from Fertile High School in 1951. On June 4, 1953, he entered the United States Army. Arvid was discharged on May 3, 1955. On September 1, 1957, he was married to Beverly Hornseth in Thief River Falls. The couple moved to Minneapolis until 1959. Arvid then took a job with Bridgeman's Refrigeration Company in Thief River Falls. In 1967, they moved to Federal Way, Wash., where Arvid worked for Boeing and later, for Weyerhaeuser. He retired in 1990. During the winter months, they lived in Hope, Ariz. The couple moved to Westport, Wash. in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Westport, Wash.; children, Shannah Rongen (Sean Fromhold) of Puyallup, Wash., Peder (Teri) of Tacoma, Wash. and Kristoffer (Kecia) of Olympia, Wash.; two sisters, Marlys Lee of Portland, N.D. and Judy (Marlyn) Sandness of Fertile; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Arvid was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Douglas.
