Orville Rolandson, 89

Thief River Falls - Orville K. Rolandson, 89, died on Sunday, December 29, 2002 at his home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Rolandson, Orville Thursday, January 2, 2003 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Faye Auchenpaugh was the organist and Terri Cuppett was the soloist. Casketbearers were Gene Olson, Gary Anderson, Arlie Fore, Dennis McCullough, Charles Seeger and Gary Roisland. Honorary casketbearers were Irvin Iverson, Doug Olson, Larry Anderson, Harland Mostrom, Marvin Gilbertson, Mervin Prestebak, Wallace Torkelson and Jim Feuerstein. Interment was in Clearwater Cemetery near Oklee.

Orville K. Rolandson was born on March 16, 1913, the son of Andrew and Caroline (Bondy) Rolandson in Roland. He was baptized and confirmed at Clearwater Lutheran Church in Roland and attended country school.

On November 6, 1937, he married Belle Anderson. The couple farmed on the family farm in Roland and operated the Carmel Cash Store. In 1947, they moved to Smiley Township to farm and raise cattle, horses, sheep and turkeys. Orville retired from farming when he was 65 and continued to live on the farm until 1998, when he and his wife moved to Thief River Falls.

Orville was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council as treasurer. He was also a member of the Farmers Union. Orville enjoyed farming with his John Deere tractors and woodworking. Orville and Belle were foster parents to approximately 30 children.

Survivors include his wife, Belle of Thief River Falls; four children, Beverly (Roland) Larson of Bloomington, Gary Rolandson of Tucson, Ariz., Delores Rolandson Hanson of Grand Marais and O. Kenneth (Lynn) Rolandson of East Grand Forks; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; 12 brothers and sisters; and one grandchild.
