Violet Rokke, 82

New Hope - Violet Rokke, 82, died Sunday, February 24, 2002.

Services were held Thursday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. at El Milagro: The Miracle Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Interment was in Pleasantview Cemetery in Burnsville with Henry W. Anderson Mortuary of Minneapolis in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Violet Slattum was born on October 15, 1919 in New Maine Township of Marshall County, the daughter of Louis P. and Elsie Slattum. At a young age, she went to live with Halvor and Gunhild Amundson in West Valley Township. Violet attended Woodland School and Newfolden High School, graduating as valedictorian in 1939.

On August 15, 1946, she married Einar Rokke of Newfolden in Fargo, N.D. The couple moved to Minneapolis in 1947. Violet worked at various secretarial jobs prior to the birth of her first child in 1951. She returned to work part-time in 1970, working until her retirement. At the time of her death, she was residing at St. Therese Home in New Hope.

Violet was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Eunice Circle and WELCA.

Survivors include two sons, Brian (Diane) Rokke of Newfolden and Jerome (Jean) Rokke of Minneapolis; and six grandchildren.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Haakon, Vivian, and Charles; two sisters, Lulie Korgen and Eva Cacabelos; four foster brothers, Adolph, Carl, Halbert, and Oscar Amundson; a foster sister, Betsy Hjelle; and a daughter-in-law, Ingrid. A00003B2002MR06
