Leland Roi, 74

Red Lake Falls - Leland B. Roi, 74, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Roi Obit April 11) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Polly Beyer will be the organist, and special music will be provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Garrett Schmidt and Aulaire Schmidt will be the readers. Casketbearers will be Daniel Swendra, Christopher Swendra, Nick Swendra, Ronnie Beauchane, Rick Beauchane and Jim Benoit. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation was held Tuesday, April 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Leland Roi was born on September 30, 1926 in St. Paul, the son of William and Rose (Beauchane) Roi. He grew up in Red Lake Falls, attended rural school and graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1944. Leland farmed in the Red Lake Falls area, retiring in 1980.

On October 7, 1978, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Swendra at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls.

Leland was a member of Knights of Columbus and attended St. Dorothy's Catholic Church in Dorothy until 1978 when he began attending St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls.

He enjoyed gardening, visiting with buddies, tinkering around the farm, fishing and spending time at his lake cabin at Waskish.

Leland is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Red Lake Falls; two daughters, Kathleen Schmidt of Minneapolis and Sharon Wold of Thief River Falls; two sons, Mike (Marlys) Swendra and Rick (Shelly) Swendra, both of Red Lake Falls; nine grandchildren; and a godson, Jim Benoit of Red Lake Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Myrtle Cassavant. A00003B2000AP11
