Clifford Lester Rohlf was born on January 17, 1915, the son of Ernest and Albena (Vacinek) Rohlf in Cloquet. He was the youngest of five boys who were raised on a farm. Cliff owned and operated a garage and gas station in Hinckley until he became a livestock dealer in the late 1940s. In 1949, he moved to Greenbush and managed the Greenbush Sales Barn. On November 24, 1949, he married Ione Erickson in White Rock, S.D. The couple lived in Breckenridge a short time before moving back to Greenbush where Cliff continued working in the livestock business. In 1955, they moved to Winger where he managed the Winger Sales Barn and in 1959, the family moved to Thief River Falls where he managed the sales barn for Melvin Joppru. Cliff and his partner, Joe Soiney, started the Thief River Livestock Auction Market in 1962. Cliff designed and helped build the business. He continued to buy and sell cattle, trucked cattle and worked with the bookkeeping and auctions. In the early 1980s, he started Rohlf Auction Service and also held consignment auctions. His son, Larry, started auctioneering with him and it soon turned into a family business as grandchildren and spouses were helping out. Cliff continued with the business until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid duck, goose and deer hunter, fisherman and camper. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and was a member of the Eagles Club and N.R.A.

Survivors include his wife, Ione; two sons, Clifford Jr. (Beverly) of Denver, Colo. and Larry (Sandy) of Thief River Falls; a daughter, Linda Reierson of Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three brothers-in-law.
