Gertie Robison, 86

Parkston, S.D. - Gertie Robison, 86, died on Friday, December 19, 2003 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston, S.D.

Funeral services were held on Robison, Gertie photo Monday, Dec. 22, at the Johnson-Green Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Casket bearers included Ricky Simmons, Richie Simmons, Redgie Simmons, Mark Simmons, Gary Johnson, Larry Gruhot. Interment was held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.

Gertie Clarice Johnson was born on July 28, 1917 in Holt, to Gilbert and Clara (Johnson) Johnson. She grew up and was raised in the Holt area. She was united in marriage to Melvin Swanson on December 7, 1935 in Strandquist. The couple made their home in the Strandquist area. To this union two children were born.

She was united in marriage to Warren Howard Robison on February 6, 1958 in Newfolden. They made their home right in Newfolden. She worked at Arctic Cat in the fiberglass department for about eight years. Warren died on August 19, 1975. After Warren's death, Gertie continued to live in Newfolden.

Gertie moved to Huron, S.D. to be closer to her family and lived there for about three years, and then to Parkston, S.D. in 1995, where she has resided until her death.

Gertie enjoyed crafting and embroidery. As her eyesight grew bad because of macular degeneration, she kept up on the world news and events and loved discussing the world affairs.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Garfve, (Jim Bourne) of Dimock, S.D.; Lenora (William) Grochow of Parkston, SD; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Davis of Crookston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three sisters, Anna Flake, Polly Pederson, Gilma Boucher; two brothers Olaf and Clifford Johnson; three grandsons; one son-in-law, Maynard Garfve; and one granddaughter-in-law.
