Elvera Ring, 100

Thief River Falls - Elvera Ring, 100, died Sunday, September 16, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with Rev. Eugene Floistad officiating. Yvonne Larson will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Jeff Johnson, Kent Wagner, Kurt Wagner, Christopher Klein, Nicholas Klein and Nicholas Jorstad. Honorary casketbearers will be Elvera's great-grandchildren and great great-granddaughter. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, September 19) at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Elvera Wilhelmina Lydeen was born on May 11, 1901 in Alexandria, the daughter of Charles and Augusta (Norman) Lydeen. She grew up and attended a country school near Alexandria before Elvera and her family moved to Mud Lake.

She was united in marriage to Lars Ring in Holt. The couple moved to the Alexandria area where Elvera worked in a turkey plant. The moved back to Mud Lake in 1932 and farmed. In 1937, the couple moved to Holt and in 1964, to Thief River Falls. Lars died in 1979.

Elvera was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and a church circle.

She enjoyed embroidery, cooking and bingo and was known as "Granny" to everyone.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence (Genevieve) Ring of Thief River Falls; a daughter, Jane (Byron) Sagmoen of Thief River Falls; two foster daughters, Kathleen (Ray) Wagner of Thief River Falls and Dianne (Rick) Czerwan of Mukwonagen, Wisc.; a granddaughter; five foster grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great great-granddaughter; a sister, Ruth Gahlon of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Elvera was preceded in death by her husband, parents and several brothers and sisters. A00003B2001SP19
