Concord,
Calif. - Mabel Rime, 87, died Thursday, January
11, 2001 at the Veterans Administration Clinic in
Martinez, Calif.
A
memorial service was held at Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church in Concord, Calif. with Chaplain Robert R.
Westerhoff officiating.
Mabel
Rime was born in 1913 near Goodridge, the daughter
of Emrich and Ingeborg Rime. She grew up on the
family farm.
After
graduating from Hibbing High School in 1932, Mabel
entered Ancker School of Nursing in St. Paul. After
graduation she worked as a nurse in St. Paul for
six years before joining the Army Nurse Corp (ANC)
as a second lieutenant in August of
1941.
In
the ANC, Mabel spent the next 25 years serving in
Europe during World War II, Korea during the Korean
conflict and stateside in Virginia, Arizona and
Georgia. She was honored with regular promotions
and retired as a lieutenant colonel.
After
retirement, Mabel bought a home in Concord and
enjoyed life there for 32 years. In November of
2000, she moved to Quail Lodge in Antioch,
Calif.
She
enjoyed entertaining family and friends, cooking,
visiting, reading, driving and
traveling.
Mabel
is survived by a sister, Myrtle Rime
Belange.
She
was preceded in death by parents; four brothers,
Oscar and John Kulseth and Carl and Gilvert Rime;
and two sisters, Gladys Rime Longroy and Christine
