Roger Richter, 64

Thief River Falls - Roger Richter, 64, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.

Funeral services were held at 2 Richter Obit p.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and special music was provided by Van Swanson and Jude Harris. Merlyn O'Malley was the eulogist. Casketbearers were Craig Molstad, Casey O'Malley, Michael O'Malley, Marlyn Beaudine, Orlin Lerol, John Erickson, John Kopari and John Frye. Burial was in Loon Lake Cemetery in Vergas with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Roger R. Richter was born on August 31, 1936 in Moorhead, the son of Udo T. and Frances (Berend) Richter. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Moorhead. He grew up in Moorhead where he attended school and graduated from high school. Following graduation, he attended the New York School of Hair Design for two years.

On June 6, 1966, Roger was united in marriage to Shirley Stenson in Minneapolis. The couple made their home there, and Roger worked for White Tractor Company and then Federal Cartridge. In 1971, they moved to Thief River Falls where Roger was employed as a custodian for Ind. School District 564. He retired in 1989.

Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Pennington County Sportsman's Club and a member of the Teamsters Union.

He enjoyed goose hunting, fishing, talking, meeting new people, having coffee at McDonald's, reading motivational books, weekend trips to Grand Forks, camping at Long Bridge Resort in Detroit Lakes and spending time with his dog, Rambo.

Roger is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Capt. David (special friend Jude Harris) Richter of Maplewood and Dr. Daniel J. Richter of Genova, Italy; and a sister, Virginia (Merlyn) O'Malley of Sartell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Robert Wayne. A00003B2001JN20
