Orlene Reed, 83

Thief River Falls - Orlene Reed, 83, died on Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist and Brenda Marben was the soloist. Casketbearers were Orlene's grandsons, Mark Peterson, Brian Peterson, Scott Peterson, Fred Malone, Jason Velasquez, Steven Velasquez and Ben Owen. Honorary friends were the Class of 1938 Lunch Gals, Yvonne Bredeson, Ardy Mattson, Alice Geske, Myrtle Waltonen, Jeanette Arhart, Lil Holmstrom, Ida Wells and Orlanda Kompelien.

Orlene Clarice Hagglund was born on Septemer 1, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Skiple) Hagglund in Dugdale. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Holt. She grew up and attended school in Holt and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. After high school, Orlene worked at the Palm Garden Café in Thief River Falls, where she met her future husband, John G. Reed.

On March 4, 1939, the couple was married at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. They lived and raised their family in Holt from 1940 to 1957. In 1957, the family moved to Thief River Falls. Orlene worked at Oakland Park Nursing Home as a nurse's aide for 26 years until she retired at age 73. She enjoyed being a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Trainman's Auxiliary, her Woman's Club, Ladies Aid and the Class of 1938 Lunch Gals. She was also a Cub Scout Leader. Orlene was an avid reader and loved music. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Joan Peterson of Middle River, Diane (Mike) Poole of Hackensack, Carol (Joe) Velasquez of Minneapolis and Ruth (Jerry) Owen of Thief River Falls; a son, Grant of Thief River Falls; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Orlene was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Jacqueline; a granddaughter; sisters, Mabel and Ida; brothers, Oscar, Elmer, Ben and Irven; and her parents. A00003B2002DC04
