Evelyn Quern, 85

Gonvick - Evelyn Quern, 85, died Saturday, March 30, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick with Rev. Eric Midthun officiating. Interment will be in Samhold Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gonvick.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Evelyn Mildred Bexell was born on January 5, 1917 in Holst Township of Clearwater County, the daughter of John and Alma (Gustafson) Bexell. She graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1935.

On March 14, 1937, Evelyn married Earl Quern in East Grand Forks. The couple lived in Gonvick where Evelyn was a postal clerk for many years and also served as postmaster. Earl died on November 19, 1954.

Evelyn was a member of Samhold Lutheran Church, a life member of WELCA, and a member of the Gonvick American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Gary (Evon) Quern of Gonvick; two daughters, Julie (Howard) Thorson of Thief River Falls and Linda (Larry) Shelquist of Clearbrook; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Vincent (Madelyn) of Des Moines, Iowa, Kermit (Ann) of Kalispell, Mont., Marvin (Wanda) of Ogden, Utah, Lawrence (LaDonna) of Billings, Mont., and Arlen (Peggy) of Hibbing; a sister, Adeline Kanan of Denver, Colo.; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Manley, Leroy, and Donald; two brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
