Clara Quam, 81

McIntosh - Clara Quam, 81, of McIntosh, died on Wednesday, August 21 at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 24 at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, with Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. A private family interment was held at Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery.

Clara Mathilda Syverson was born on May 17, 1921, the daughter of Rudolph and Clara (Martinson) Syverson in Hill River Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. After attending Lindsey country school through the eighth grade, she completed high school and graduated in 1942 from the Crookston Agricultural College. She was employed, for a time, by the McIntosh Creamery.

On December 31, 1944, Clara was united in marriage to Roy M. Quam at Vernes Lutheran Church. The couple farmed north of McIntosh until their retirement.

Clara enjoyed many church activities, especially singing. Clara and Roy were married for 57 years. She dearly loved her immediate family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Roy of McIntosh; seven children, Lindell (Lavonne) Quam of Westby, Wisc., Bonnie (Larry) Kallod of Fargo, N.D., Miriam (Norman) Kahl of Borup, Philip (Faye) Quam of McIntosh, Lowell (Paula) Quam of Fergus Falls, Donald (Marlys) Quam of Fergus Falls and Grace (Rodney) Mathsen of Ada; 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ardith Syverson, Anola Finseth, Mary (Richard) Loing and Faith (Bruce) Hanson; three brothers, Norris, Rupert and Gordon (Loretta) Syverson; and many nieces and nephews.

Clara was preceded in death by her daughter, Doreen; son-in-law, Owan; one grandson; her parents; two infant sisters; one infant brother; sister, Alvira Knutson; and three brothers, Alan, Edwin and Francis Syverson. A00003B2002AG28
