Thomas F. "Tom" Protz, 84

Thief River Falls - Thomas F. "Tom" Protz, 84, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on July 5, 2002 in Arlington, Va.

Mass of Christian burial was held FD-Tom on July 8 with a private interment.

Thomas F. "Tom" Protz was born on April 28, 1918, the son of Fred and Blanche Protz in Thief River Falls. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. On June 15, 1941, he married Ira Groslie and they celebrated their 61st anniversary this past June.

Tom worked for the Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. and also with Harry Diamond Laboratories with which he retired from in 1977.

He was an avid member of Arlington Amateur Radio Club, a member of St. John's Catholic Church and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Alyce Carlson of Federal Way, Wash.; two brothers, Robert of Mesa, Ariz., and Gerald of Houston, Texas; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and a sister, Madonna Ander.
