Leon Pribula, 84

Alvarado - Leon J. Pribula, 84, died on Friday, September 27, 2002 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held on Pribula Monday, September 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oslo. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Warren.

Leon Joseph Pribula was born in Northland Township, the son of Paul and Eleanor (Travnicek) Pribula. He was raised in Northland Township. He was baptized on April 21, 1918 and confirmed on July 13, 1930 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tabor. Leon graduated from Alvarado High School and attended St. John's Unversity in Collegeville. On August 18, 1942, he was united in marriage to Irene Vanyo at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tabor. The couple made their home in Alvarado, where he farmed. In 1982, he was honored as a Red River Agriculturist by NDSU and earned many state and county grain awards. Leon was a two-term 2nd District Marshall County Commissioner and also served two terms on the Alvarado School Board. He was one of the founding members of Valley State Bank in Oslo in 1965 and he served on its board until 1999. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; seven children, Rev. Duane Pribula of Akeley, Carol Pribula of Mesa, Ariz., M. Michael (Sharon) Pribula of Santa Clara, Calif., Suzanne Nelson of Moorhead, Greg (Becky) Pribula of Thief River Falls, Paula (Michael) Hamman of Urbana, Ill. and Mari (Paul) Grinolds of Golden Valley; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Emil (LaVerne) of Warren and Ray (Marie) of Crookston; two sisters, Dorothy Pribula of Crookston and Bernice (Pershing) Sims of Fargo, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha; a brother, Robert; and son-in-law, Dan Nelson. A00003B2002OT02
