Thief
River Falls - Stanley Pladson, 86, died Sunday,
June 20, 2004 in CNC unit of Northwest Medical
Center, Thief River Falls.
Funeral
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June
25 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls,
with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Casket
bearers include Troy Pladson, Stanford Pladson,
Craig Pladson, Matthew Knott, MacKenzie Knott and
Seth Torstveit. Honorary casket bearers include
Cynthia Olson, Candy Flower, Melissa Knott, Heather
Harbott, Allyson Torstveit and Summer Pladson.
Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in
Thief River Falls. Military honors will be provided
by Thief River Falls American Legion
Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign
Wars, Post 2793.
Visitation
will be 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, at Johnson
Green Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with a
Prayer Service at 7p.m. Visitation will also be for
one hour prior to services at church.
Stanley
Everett Pladson was born July 22, 1917 to Nels
Clarence and Gertie Helmina (Disrud) Pladson in
Barness Township of Pope County. He grew up and
attended country school in Barnes Township near
Glenwood. He attended the Minnesota School of
Business in Minneapolis. He returned to Glenwood
and worked at the Gambles Store as an assistant
manager.
He
was united in marriage to Helen Gehardena Moan, on
September 20, 1940 in Glenwood, MN. He returned
home from the service to Glenwood and continued
working for Gambles. He moved his family to Thief
River Falls in 1948.
Stanley
served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945. He was
stationed in England, Normandy, Northern France
Ardennes and Rhineland. He earned the combat and
infantry badge, good conduct medal, and meritorious
unit award.
He
worked for 42 years, beginning in 1948 at Gambles
Hardware Store in Thief River Falls; he served the
store as manager for many years.
Stanley
was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he
served on the church council. He was a member of
the American Legion, Lions Club, VFW, Cooties,
Elks, Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce. He also
enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, lawn
manicuring, and holiday yard decorating.
Stanley
is survived by wife Helen of Thief River Falls; two
sons, Stanford (Trina) of Champlin and Craig
(Charlotte) of Ramsey, two daughters, Faith (E.
Duane) Knott of Red Lake Falls and Darlene (Herb)
Torstveit of Thief River Falls; 12 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Franklin
(Merrian) Pladson of Glenwood; and one sister,
Laraine (Wally) Hoium of Moorhead.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; three
brothers, Merlin, Orville and Clifford; and a
sister-in-law Elva Pladson.
