James V. Philipp, 85

Goodridge - James V. Philipp, 85, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at Philipp Obit 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 15, at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Crystelle Philipp was the pianist. Deb Farris was the soloist. Casketbearers were Ronnie Philipp, Kurt Philipp, Steve Philipp, Brent Philipp, Dale Philipp, Mike Philipp, Roger Philipp, and Wallace Philipp. Interment was in Bethany Cemetery in Smiley Township of Pennington County. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

James Vincent Philipp was born on August 23, 1916 in Grand Plain Township of Marshall County, the son of John and Sarah Sophie (Klockman) Philipp. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Mavie and attended school in District 76. He later attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.

On May 15, 1947, James was united in marriage to Constance Wiley in Thief River Falls. He farmed throughout his life in Grand Plain Township, and also helped a lot of area farmers. James and Connie built their own house.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was a Grand Plain Township supervisor for nearly 30 years.

He enjoyed building machinery, such as tractors and combines, hunting, and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Constance of Goodridge; a brother, Vernon (Yvonne) Philipp of Goodridge; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Glen Olson, who grew up with the Philipp family.

James was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna and Estelle; and five brothers, Lawrence, Earl, Harry, and in infancy, Ralph and Charles. A00003B2002FB20
