Goodridge - Gorden Henry Phelps, 87, died on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at 1 p.m., at Johnson Green Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Virgil Rasmussen officiating. Casket bearers include all of Gorden's family. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Gorden Henry Phelps was born on September 16, 1916 in Thief River Falls, the son of Frank and Eliza (Nelson) Phelps. He was baptized into the Christian faith in Highlanding, and attended rural school near Goodridge. Gorden worked at the CCC Camp in Middle River. On December 2, 1941 he entered the United States Army and served in France during World War II. He was Honorably Discharged on February 14, 1946.

Gorden was united in marriage to Alma Margaret Asp on February 26, 1946 at a Lutheran Church in New Richmond, Wis. The couple moved to the Goodridge area and farmed their entire lives. In the early 1960's Gorden worked in the Oil Fields in Western North Dakota. He then worked at Arctic Cat for 10 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, refurbishing furniture, repairing pump organs and taking them all apart and gathering information for the 'Family Tree.' Gorden also loved gardening, flowers and feeding birds, squirrels and rabbits and watching them.

Survivors include by his wife, Alma of Goodridge; five children: Eileen (Richard) Glanzer of Willmar, Virgil (Gale) Phelps of San Diego of Calif, Gaylon Phelps and special friend, Annette Magnell of Goodridge, Eldon Phelps of Goodridge, and Robert (Noreen) Phelps of Goodridge; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Gorden was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Jessie Phelps, Blanche Campbell, Edwin Phelps, Lloyd Phelps, Doris Sturre, Dvern Sheridan, Muriel Asp, Ardith Schwabauer and Sterling Phelps. A00003B2004FB04
