William Peterson, 86

Houston - William R. "Bill" Peterson, 86, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at Looney Valley Lutheran Church in Houston with Rev. Kris Fahey officiating. Anita Henderson was the organist, and Gene Hendrickson and Susan Peterson were the vocalists. Casketbearers were Eddie Wateski, Jerred Roth, Jason Vix, Dan Kildahl, Chris Kildahl, and Craig Peterson. Interment was in Silver Creek Cemetery in Houston with Hoff Funeral Homes in charge of the arrangements.

William R. Peterson was born on March 5, 1916 in Thief River Falls, the son of Paul and Martha (Humble) Peterson. He grew up on the family farm near Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School. As a young man, Bill moved to Winona to work.

On November 25, 1940, he married Candace Torgerson. He farmed for many years near Houston.

Bill was a volunteer at A.B.L.E. group home in Houston and also drove those needing rides to appointments with their doctors. He was an active member of Looney Valley Lutheran Church where he was a member of a quartet and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also active for many years with the Gideons organization.

Survivors include two sons, Ron (Deanna) Peterson and Dan (Debbie) Peterson, both of Houston; two daughters, Marlene (Rich) Sather of Houston and Carol (Dave) Hilken of Winona; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two grandchildren, Ricky and Megan; seven brothers; and two sisters.
