Mabel Peterson, 92

Middle River - Mabel Peterson, 92, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 2) at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Rev. John Jorgensen officiating. Lois Peterson was the organist, and Donovan Ruud was the soloist. Casketbearers were Mabel's grandsons, Mark Peterson, Darrin Peterson, Mardy Anderson, Randy Cwikla, Mike Peterson and Steve Neuschwander. Interment was in Spruce Valley Cemetery in Middle River. Visitation was held after 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Middle River with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Mabel Eleanor Anderson was born on June 8, 1908 in Spruce Valley township of Marshall county near Middle River, the daughter of Albin and Ellen (Osterberg) Anderson. She grew up and attended school near Middle River, graduating from Middle River High School in 1927. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On December 28, 1929, Mabel was united in marriage to Egil Peterson at Warren. The couple lived and farmed in Spruce Valley township until 1970 when they retired and moved to Middle River. Egil died on December 15, 1974. In 1997, Mabel moved to Royal Oak Apartments in Middle River and then to live with her daughter, Lois, at Grygla. Since November of 1999, she had resided at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Mabel was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church of Middle River and belonged to the Spruce Valley Garden Club for many years.

Survivors include four daughters, Deloris (Stanley) Larson of Albany, Ore., Mimi Cwikla of Middle River, Lois (Vernon) Neuschwander of Grygla and Cherie (Fred) Nissen of Middle River; two sons, Harold and Larry (Janyce), both of Middle River; 26 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo of Grand Forks, N.D. and Floyd (LaVonne) of East Grand Forks; three sisters, Ruby Torgerson of Stephen, Pearl Moen of Middle River and Marion Courtamanche of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Erick in 1985; a son-in-law, Alex Cwikla; a sister, Nettie; and a brother, Lawrence. A00003B2000MY02
