Ervin Peterson, 75

Middle River - Ervin Peterson, 75, died on Monday, May 12, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 15 at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with the Rev. Mary Gaebler officiating. Pat Hanson was the organist and Donovan Ruud was the vocalist. Casketbearers were Doug Anderson, Darrin Anderson, Terry Peterson, Nick Aune, Juan Aune, Curt Neumann and Clayton Troskey. Honorary casketbearers were all those who attended the service. Interment was in Spruce Valley Cemetery in Middle River.

Ervin Elmer Peterson was born on December 17, 1927, the son of Elmer and Florence (Knutson) Peterson, in Spruce Valley Township of Marshall County. He attended school and grew up there. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith.

On May 7, 1950, he married Betty Jane Nelson in Newfolden. The couple made their home in Middle River, where they have since resided. Ervin and Betty worked together in the woods, logging for a few years, then bought their farm in Spruce Valley Township, where they farmed in the 1980s. Ervin bought First National Bank in Middle River with Curt Neumann in the 1970s and sold it in 1991. Since retirement, the couple had made their home on their farm. Ervin enjoyed spending time at the lake with Betty. He also enjoyed traveling, flying airplanes, hunting, fishing and fixing things.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, JoAnn Anderson of Middle River, Scottie (Paula) of Middle River, and Vickie (Paul) Bellerud of Thief River Falls; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ronnie (Sheila) of Middle River, Elmer, Jr. of Barnesville, and Floyd (Lois) of Middle River; five sisters, Margaret (Arnold) Johnson of Fargo, N.D., Hazel Herk of Vergas, Sharon Gustafson of Newfolden, Shirley Lorraine Stacey of Riverside, Calif., and Lila (Duane) Knutson of Bagley; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donnie; and two sisters, Audrey and Donna.
