Ernest Pederson, 89

Plummer - Ernest Pederson, 89, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 Peterson Obit p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Rev. Robert Paulson officiating. Linda Olson was the organist. Casketbearers included Herb Walter, Raymond Walter, Roger Walter, Jim Seibel, Gary Pederson, Ronnie Pederson and Harold Marjamma. Military honors were accorded by the Plummer American Legion Post. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery near Red Lake Falls with Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Ernest Kermit Pederson was born on November 18, 1911 at Munich, N.D., the son of Edward and Carrie (Strom) Pederson. When he was young, Ernest moved with his family to Bemidji where he graduated from Bemidji High School in 1931.

On June 5, 1940, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Luxemburg at Bemidji. He was employed at the Bemidji Boat Factory for four years. Ernest entered the United States Army on Feburary 2, 1944 during World War II. He departed for overseas on May 27, 1945 and served as carpenter with the 1631st Engineer Construction Battalion. Following his honorable discharge on May 18, 1946, he returned to Terrebonne where the couple farmed. In 1960, Ernest and Dorothy moved to Plummer where they had since resided. He worked for Detroiter Homes in Red Lake Falls for many years.

Ernie was active in the Plummer community, serving as chairman of the Plummer Farmers Union Local, a 4-H leader and on the township board. He served as mayor and worked as a policeman, was commander of the Plummer American Legion for six years, served as secretary and treasurer of Senior Citizens Housing. Ernie was a member of the Commercial Club and at church, served on the church council as president. He was union president for the employees of Detroiter Mobile Homes, president of the Northwest Regional Development Board on Aging and was chairman of Lutheran Social Services meals program. Ernest was recognized for his many contributions when he was named a Red Lake County Senior Citizen of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Pederson of Thief River Falls; four daughters, Beverly (Harold) Waldal, Linda (Michael) King and Donna (Ken) Wisniewski, all of Milwaukee, Wisc. and Judy (Wally) Nyland of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Richard (Debbie) Pederson of Milwaukee, Wisc.; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Alvina Knauer of Bemidji; a brother, Hilmer Pederson of Bemidji; and other relatives.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard Pederson and Oscar Pederson; and two sisters, Clara Titus and Hilda Pederson. A00003B2000MY30
