Arlen Overbye, 53

Lakeville - Arlen Overbye, 53, died on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 in rural Goodridge while deer hunting. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 Overbye, Arlen photo a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12 (today), 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Casket bearers include: Ryan Overbye, Travis Overbye, Daryn Minske, Troy Minske, Trent Johnson and Jonathan Hams. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church today.

Arlen Curtis Overbye was born on January 31, 1950 in Thief River Falls to Harvey L. and Esther J. (Dahle) Overbye. He grew up in Thief River Falls attending Washington Elementary School and graduating from Lincoln High School in 1968. Arlen entered the US Army in 1969 serving his country in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

Arlen was united in marriage to Jill Ann Holmstrom in 1972 and to this union two daughters were born. They lived their first four years in Forest Lake, before moving to Thief River Falls in 1977. He worked for North Star Transport in operations and dispatching.

Arlen was united in marriage to Barbara "Cookie" Diane Joppru on September 14, 1985. The couple made their home in Lakeville. He was currently employed by Overbye Transport as their safety director.

Arlen loved to be with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, golfing, and going to the lake. Arlen loved to be a practical joker and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara "Cookie", Lakeville; two daughters, Heather Dickson of Thief River Falls and Jenny Overbye of Thief River Falls; one stepson, Shane McNatton of Fargo, N.D.; mother and stepfather, Esther and Donald Anderson of Thief River Falls; one granddaughter; two grandsons; six brothers, Harold (Arlene) of Lakeville, Mark Anderson of Newfolden, Palmer (Ardell) of Tavarres, Fla., Alvin (Doris) of Elk River, Art (Darleen) of Milwaukee, Wisc., George (fiancé, Pam) of Harris; three sisters, Delores "Toody" (Lyndon) Minske of Hallock, Karen (David) Johnson of Dayton and Jody (Ryan) Harger of Chesterville, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, three uncles and one nephew.
