Honorary casketbearers were Ardelle's grandchildren, Kimberly Traxler, Kelsi Sunsdahl, Seth Morinville, Cassandra Morinville, Misty Leiby and Eric Ostgarden. Interment took place in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing on Monday, November 5, at 1 p.m. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Ardelle DeLores Voxland was born on November 29, 1923 in Lester Township of Polk County near McIntosh, the daughter of Halvor and Caroline (Klemmetson) Voxland. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, by Rev. C.M. Westermoe. She attended a rural school and McIntosh High School. After her mother died in 1940, Ardelle stayed on the farm and helped her dad take care of her younger siblings. She also helped her grandfather and aunts when they needed assistance and worked for a doctor in Fosston.

On December 31, 1945, she was united in marriage to Alvin Ostgarden in Fosston. At the time of their marriage, Ardelle was employed as a cook at a Fosston restaurant. In 1950, the couple moved to Hibbing where she was self-employed for a few years as a housekeeper. She also worked in restaurants and nursing homes.

Alvin died on November 27, 1968, and in August of that year, Ardelle moved to Thief River Falls with her two young children. In 1970, she started caring for teenage foster children in her home, and in 1972, a young blind lady, Gayle Pearson, came to live with her. Gayle lived with her until 1992 when, due to health reasons, Ardelle was no longer able to care for her. Ardelle also worked at Northup School, retiring in 1987 because of health reasons. Since April 23, 1998, she had been a resident of the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.

While living in Hibbing, she was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. In Thief River Falls, she was a member of Abundant Life Church. She was also a member of Sons of Norway and Eagle's Auxiliary, serving as an officer in several capacities for both organizations.

She enjoyed watching television, reading, sewing and helping other CNC residents with crafts and bingo. She especially enjoyed going on a hot air balloon ride after her youngest daughter's wedding in 1996.

Ardelle is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Obert) Sunsdahl of Thief River Falls and Lori (Todd) Leiby of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Roger (Yahne) Ostgarden of San Jose, Calif. and Mark (Renee) Ostgarden of Midland, Mich.; six grandchildren; four sisters, Luella Wigness of Minot, N.D., Evelyn (Walter) Lambert of Thief River Falls, Hazel Nelson of Trail and Jordis (Robert) Dotson of Rathdrum, Idaho; a brother, Jerome (Bernice) Voxland of McIntosh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Harlan; and a great-granddaughter, Libertie Traxler. A00003B2001NV07
