Henry Opdahl, 82

Hardin, Mont. - Henry N. Opdahl, 82, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at Big Horn County Memorial Hospital in Hardin, Mont.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 1) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Donald Kirchner officiating. Elaine Idso will be the organist. Henry's grandchildren will serve as casketbearers. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at St. Hilaire.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services.

Henry Norman Opdahl was born on December 15, 1919 in Lisbon, N.D., the son of Nels and Lottie (Johnson) Opdahl.

Henry farmed in the Warren area and worked at the Alvarado Elevator. In 1950, he moved to a farm near St. Hilaire, and he worked as a mechanic at Foss Garage. He also hauled grain, pulpwood, and gravel, worked as a mechanic for Pennington County, and enjoyed doing mechanical work and fieldwork for neighboring farmers. In 1991, he sold his farm and moved to Hardin, Mont.

Henry enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, snowmobiling, and playing rummy and checkers with his grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Duane (Corine) Opdahl of Thief River Falls, Norman (Karen) Opdahl of Middle River, Tom (Kathy) Opdahl of Apple Valley, David Opdahl of Tomahawk, Wisc., and Jim (Linda) Opdahl of Chisago City; five daughters, Margaret (Danny) Larson, Mary (Curt) Thompson, Kathy (friend Kevin) Opdahl, and Judy (friend Larry) Opdahl, all of Thief River Falls, and Nancy Opdahl of Tomahawk, Wisc.; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Lolly) Opdahl of International Falls; a sister, Florence (Don) Kotrba of East Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Henry in death were his parents and two brothers, Floyd and Melvin. A00003B2002MY01
