Violet L. Olson, 82

Thief River Falls - Violet L. Olson, 82, died on Friday, November 9, 2001, at the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Violet Olson photo color

Funeral services were on Monday, November 12, 2001 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery, Smiley Township, Pennington County.

Violet Larson was born on September 29, 1919 in Smiley Township, Pennington County, to the late Krist and Alma (Jacobson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls and attended Hammer School District #31. She received her high school degree from the American College of Chicago, Ill.

On December 24, 1941 Violet was united in marriage to Rufus Stanley Olson in Goodridge. She worked for some time at Lockheed in Pasadena, Calif., and in 1945 the couple purchased the family farm in Kratka Township. She also worked at Arctic Cat and Dee's Kitchen. They retired in 1975 and did some traveling and volunteer work. Violet and Rufus returned to Thief River Falls in 1987 and have resided here since.

She loved to quilt, cook and bake and was known for her wonderful pies. Violet enjoyed doing volunteer work of any type. Vi and Rufus have sponsored eight children over the last 40 years, through Children's Fund and Children International.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past member of the Heritage Center Board and was 4-H Leader for many years. She was also very active in the Ladies Church Groups.

Violet is survived by her husband, Rufus; children: Myles (Susan) Olson of Thief River Falls, MN Stan (Peggy) Olson of East Berlin, Penn., Lyle (Lori) Olson of Thief River Falls, Bob (Jennifer) Larson of Fayetteville, Ark., Ken Larson of Arlington, Va., and Patricia (Fran) Morone of Lodi, Calf.; several grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one sister, Alpha Borgie of Sunland, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; her parents; brothers and sisters: Elesa Hanson, Helmer Larson, Evelyn Bjornson, Lillian Herren, Elsie Copp, Louie Larson and Arthur Larson.

Pallbearers were Heather Willman, Steve Willman, Mylynda Olson, Katy Olson, Krist Olson, Shawn Olson, Michael Olson and David Olson.

Honorary pallbearers were Michelle Morone, Kristin Morone, Becky Larson Hall, Sarah Larson, John Robert Larson, Lauren Morone, Alex Hall and friends and neighbors.
