Goodwin Olson, 62

Brooks - Goodwin Olson, 62, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at his home in Brooks.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Goodwin Olson Obit on Saturday, February 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee with Rev. Robert Paulson officiating. Marian Marquis was the organist, and Casey Lemonds was the soloist. Casketbearers were Ben Salentiny, Joshua Willett, Jeremiah Willett, Corey Olson, David Hofstad, and Blair Gustafson. Honorary casketbearers were Harold Cyr, Joe Cyr, David Bachand, Dale Cote, Gerald Cote, Elmer Hanson, Dale Bjerklie, Orvis Bjerklie, and all of Goodwin's friends and co-workers. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Oklee with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Goodwin John Olson was born on January 4, 1940 in Thief River Falls, the son of Ben and Alice (Rystad) Olson. He was baptized on January 28, 1940 at the home of his grandfather, John Olson. He was confirmed in 1952 at Oak Park Lutheran Church and attended elementary and high school in Oklee.

On October 27, 1962, Goodwin was united in marriage to Eileen Johnson at Clearwater Lutheran Church. He worked for Alvin Jensen Mink Ranch in Oklee, Earl Woods Construction Co., the Red Lake County Highway Dept., and was a heavy equipment operator for Local 49 until health concerns forced his retirement.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Oklee and Local 49.

Goodwin enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoor activities, planting his garden, family cookouts, and taking drives with his grandchildren to the candy store.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Olson of Brooks; two daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Salentiny of Red Lake Falls and Shelley (Daniel) Thompson of Oklee; a son, Steven (Karen) Olson of Brooks; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin (Ione) Olson and Milan Olson, both of Trail; a sister, Darlene (Norman) Blackstad of Thief River Falls; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Goodwin was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles. A00003B2002FB27
