Evelyn M. Olson, 75

Mentor - Evelyn M. Olson, 75, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at First Care Medical Services in Fosston.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 8, at First Evanger Lutheran Church in Fertile, with Rev. Rolf Preus officiating. Casket bearers included Chuck Schear, Mark Schear, B.J. "Brad" Schear, Shane Erickson, Bob Schear and Dave Hanson. Interment was held at First English Lutheran Cemetery in Mentor.

Evelyn Marie Schear was born October 24, 1928 in Browns Creek Township of Red Lake County, the daughter of Adam and Myrtle (Schultz) Schear. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up and attended rural school near Red Lake Falls.

On June 5, 1951, Evelyn was united in marriage to Arthur C. Olson in Red Lake Falls. The couple lived in Crookston, where she worked at the Catholic Hospital as a nurse's aide. They lived for one year in International Falls, and then returned to Mentor where they purchased a farm and have since resided.

Evelyn was a member of First Evanger Lutheran Church and held membership in McIntosh VFW Auxiliary Post 6891. She enjoyed farming, gardening and canning, but most of all she loved family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur of Mentor; children, Sharon (Larry) Hanson of Erskine and Janis (Reggie) Galland of Mentor ; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Chester (Ann) Schear of Mentor, Marvin "Bud" (Darlene) Schear of Mentor; sister-in-law, Betty Schear of Erskine; brother-in-law, Dale "Bump" Erickson of Fertile and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lois Erickson; brothers, Glen and Laurel, and one niece, Debra Schear. A00003B2004MY05
