- Ellen V. Olson, 88, died Sunday, February 24,
2002 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks,
N.D.
Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday,
February
27) at Karlstad Baptist Church in Karlstad with
Rev. Carroll Erickson officiating. Kirstin Olson
will be the organist, and Lloyd Johnson and Kurt
Aakre will be the vocalists. Casketbearers will be
Steven Anderson, Hal Anderson, Byron Staie, Tim
Anderson, Wesley Staie, and James Pederson.
Honorary casketbearers will include Carlyn, Glen,
Paula, Buddy, and Andrew. Interment will be in
Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad.
Visitation
was held after 5 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service
on Tuesday, February 26, at Collins Funeral Chapel
in Karlstad. Visitation will also be held for one
hour prior to services at the church
today.
Ellen
Victoria Olson was born on April 23, 1913 at
Strathcona, the daughter of Pethus and Ida
(Stahlberg) Olson. She grew up at Strathcona and
was valedictorian of Karlstad High School's
graduating class of 1931. She attended Moorhead
State Teachers College for a year and taught in
several area rural schools.
On
June 6, 1936, Ellen was united in marriage to Olav
Olson at Strathcona. Following their marriage the
couple farmed east of Halma until 1943 when they
moved to Karlstad. In 1960, they moved to Halma and
resided there until 1987 when they returned to
Karlstad. Following Olav's death on February 27,
1988, Ellen continued to make her home in Karlstad
and had resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center
since November of 2001.
She
was a longtime member of the Karlstad Baptist
Church.
Ellen
is survived by a son, David of Karlstad; two
daughters, Sherrill Zempel and Karen Olson, both of
Karlstad; a granddaughter; three
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lorraine Jones
in Oregon, Hazel Brandvold in Idaho, and Irene
(Arnold) Richardson in California; and several
nieces, nephews, cousins and other
relatives.
In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death
by her parents; two sons in infancy; a brother,
Lloyd; and a sister, Sally.
